Phyllostachys nigra (black bamboo)

20.00

Phyllostachys nigra is a cold-hardy black bamboo that over time creates a dense, dark hedge. Nigra is most often used in planters and pots, and in yards can be contained using polyethylene rhizome barrier that we carry. Culms (shoots) emerge a light green color and over time turn dark grayish-black. Leaves are dark green, contrasting beautifully with the culms. Nigra reaches a maximum height of 30', with a culm diameter of 2".

Phyllostachys Nigra is a running bamboo. Running bamboos require containment; otherwise, new growth will expand and become very difficult to control. We recommend using planters, pots, or polyethylene rhizome barrier that we carry. This will prohibit unwanted root expansion.
