Bamboo Maintenance
Bamboo benefits from periodic pruning. Doing so helps encourage new vertical growth, while removing unsightly, unhealthy culms (shoots) and keeping the plant looking its best.
Initial pruning involves the removal of branches that are leaning over, followed by a deeper pruning in which we thin out culms that are close to fence lines or other structures. This may result in bamboo appearing sparse in the weeks following the process. However, the end result will be thicker, more erect culms.
Bamboo thinning tends to be a time-intensive process, as it requires bagging of debris. In general, debris removal takes about twice as long as the pruning process itself.
Pruning is recommended twice annually, and this service includes free fertilization.
