About your teacher:

James Wolf is a seasoned designer and craftsman with over 30 years of expertise in working with bamboo. His extensive experience spans from crafting small-scale handicrafts and furniture to designing bicycles and executing award-winning architectural projects across the globe, all using bamboo

What will we build:

As a driving force for creativity, James aims to provide you with hands-on experience with bamboo, allowing you to apply the techniques he teaches. As a participant, you'll have the opportunity to bring to life ideas that have been on your mind or emerge through the process of exploring the strengths, versatility, flexibility, and limitations of this natural material. Whether you're interested in creating art, sculpture, furniture, home decor, or something for the garden, the possibilities are endless. There are no limits to guided creativity in this workshop.

Course Overview:

Welcome to this Bamboo Master Session! Over three days, you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of bamboo as a sustainable building material, from processing and design to construction and finishing. 

Day 1 focuses on bamboo basics, including processing techniques like heat treating, splitting, and flattening, along with hands-on exercises and design principles for bamboo architecture. 

Day 2 dives into designing with bamboo, covering its history, uses, and quality, with opportunities to develop and present your projects. 

Day 3 is all about construction, featuring workshops on skills like flame burnishing and surface finishing, culminating in final presentations. This course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to embrace sustainable bamboo architecture, promoting a harmonious way of living with nature.

Course Add-ons

Breakfast - Continental Breakfast with coffee, tea and juice. $15 per meal. Input the quantity of breakfasts (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Booking your meal plan ahead allows The Tiki Food Lab to anticipate quantities and prepare the menus.

Lunch - Featuring chef prepared specialties made with our farm grown ingredients including Tiki Farm’s own probiotic fermented specialties. $20 per meal. Input the quantity of breakfasts (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Booking your meal plan ahead allows The Tiki Food Lab to anticipate quantities and prepare the menus.

Dinner - Exquisitely prepared specialties made with our farm grown ingredients including Tiki Farm’s own probiotic fermented specialties. We will not be cooking a Sunday dinner, as our workshop coincides with the Organic Living Festival where attendees can connect with practitioners working towards an ecologically minded future, enjoy fresh cuisine made by local producers, hear live music and presenters discussing topics ranging from fermentation to eco-friendly construction to current zero-waste farm practices and more. Sunday’s Organic Living Festival is an opportunity to sample many scrumptious local delicacies.$25 per meal.  Input the quantity of dinners (Friday, Saturday only). Booking your meal plan ahead allows The Tiki Food Lab to anticipate quantities and prepare the menus. Fermented Tiki beverages will be available for purchase at the Tiki Food Lab.

Full Meal Plan - Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner on Friday and Saturday, with breakfast and lunch on Sunday.  We will not be cooking a Sunday dinner, as our workshop coincides with the Organic Living Festival where attendees can connect with practitioners working towards an ecologically minded future, enjoy fresh cuisine made by local producers, hear live music and presenters discussing topics ranging from fermentation to eco-friendly construction to current zero-waste farm practices and more.
