Now Hiring
Ninth Ward Nursery is a licensed garden center specializing in non-invasive bamboo for natural privacy screening. We are currently hiring an Installer Lead to assist in plant care and landscaping tasks for residential and commercial clients.
As nursery work is highly dependent on the weather and time of year, this is an on-call, seasonal position, the duration of which will depend on nursery sales and availability of install jobs. Hours are flexible and are dependent on the applicant’s skill set — while our most urgent need is plant care and installation, we do have opportunities for those interested in retail sales, client consultations, marketing and accounting.
This is not an entry-level position. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and in small groups, and will have some familiarity with basic plant care. As a specialty nursery, our staff is required to learn the basics of bamboo, a plant that constitutes the majority of our sales. Successful applicants will receive on-the-job training in all things bamboo, as they will regularly interact with clients during installs.
Responsibilities include the following:
Potting plants
Loading, delivering and installing plants
Consulting with clients in person at job sites on the basics of bamboo growth habits and post-installation care.
Minor construction and irrigation installation. We are currently undergoing an expansion of the nursery, and need help erecting greenhouses and running new irrigation lines. Much of this can be taught, though interested candidates should have familiarity with power tools and the basics of measuring, cutting, drilling, etc.
Job requirements include the following:
Ability to lift at least 40 pounds regularly
Valid U.S. drivers license and clean driving record
Reliable transport to/from job sites and the nursery
Ability to drive the company cargo van and 16' flatbed trailer — this is essential to the position, and there will be a test.
Regular access to email and cell phone
Starting pay is $19/hour, with performance-based bonuses.
